  • Provide advice about business plans, structures and accounting systems.
  • Establishing bank accounts, funds and trusts.
  • Manage cash flow.
  • Manage investment projects.

How to become an Accountant


SEEK Learning

A bachelor degree in the field of accounting is required to be eligible for entry into any of the three professional accounting bodies that regulate and accredit the accounting industry in Australia. These are generally three-year courses, open to anyone over 17 years who has completed year 12 with an appropriate Universities Admission Index.


  1. Complete a Bachelor degree in the field of accounting. This could be a Bachelor of Accounting or a Bachelor of Accounting and Finance.
  2. Alternatively, complete a postgraduate qualification, such as a Master of Professional Accounting. This is a two-year degree for students with previous tertiary qualifications.
  3. Apply to participate in a Certified Practising Accountants (CPA) program or apply to become a member of a recognised accounting institution, such Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ).
